Career highlights include John winning the silver medal at the 2007 Pacific Rim Judo Championships in Macau; George winning gold medals in both the 2004 and 2006 Australian Championships; and the bronze medal in the 2006 Oceania Championships. John has been awarded the Douglas Shire Sports Coach of the year for two years running and George was named Douglas Shire Senior Sports person of the year.

During these years the club trained Micky, Anne and Mark Jones who became Junior National Champions. The club is currently training Sebastian Temesi who is a member of the Australian National Judo team. Sebastian is the current National and Oceania U90kg Champion. Sebastian’s dream is to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Head Coach of the club is now Andreas Schmidt who won gold at the Australian National Championships in 2017 and 2018.  Under Andy's coaching the club has been able to win 3 National championships in 2017 and 4 championships in 2018.  6 juniors attended the Nationals in 2018 for one silver, one bronze, one fourth and three fifth placings.

We also have a number of relative new comers to the sport of Judo. Our members include men, women and children from different nations including Germany, Japan and Thailand. We have members who travel from as far south as Cairns and from North of the Daintree River to train with us. We have training sessions for tiny tots, juniors and seniors.

Coral Coast Judo Club is an inclusive club. All coaches are volunteers. We provide an alternative for the people in our region to participate in and learn valuable life skills to help with their personal development, fitness, self-discipline and confidence while engaging in an Olympic Sport.
