Commentary

There were around 25 people from a new judo club in Bamaga that came down to compete. There were also a number of competitors from Townsville, Ravenshoe and Malanda. Coral Coast Judo Club had a small but strong contingent in attendance.

The three junior competitors, Kai and Georgia North and Cameron Wood, from Coral Coast Judo Club were coached by Andreas Schmidt. It was the first competition for Kai North. He did the club proud winning his first two fights and was awarded the silver medal after being defeated in his third fight. Cameron Wood also put smiles on our faces winning his first two fights of the day and ending up with a bronze medal after being defeated in his third fight. Georgia North put in an absolute mammoth effort. Due to some misunderstanding she fought in the division above her weight category. She won every bout, two fights went to "golden score" (aka extra time) After securing the gold medal in this division she then went on to compete in her weight division and won every fight in that division too. A relative new comer to the sport of judo, Georgia, will be a formidable opponent on a national scale if she continues at this rate.
